Shahid Kapoor’s highly anticipated action thriller Deva is facing a tough battle at the box office. The film, which opened with a respectable Rs 5.5 crore on its first Friday, has seen a steep decline in collections, dropping to an all-time low of Rs 50 lakh on its second Monday (Day 11).
Mixed Word of Mouth Impacts Collections
Despite a promising start, where Deva managed to rake in Rs 19.15 crore during its opening weekend, the film’s momentum fizzled out starting from its first Monday. The sharp 62% drop in earnings to Rs 2.75 crore on Day 4 set the tone for the week ahead. By the end of its first week, Deva had collected Rs 28.5 crore, falling short of expectations.
Second Week Struggles
The film’s performance further declined in its second week. By the second Friday, Deva collected a meager Rs 80 lakh. Although there was slight growth during the second weekend, with Rs 1.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.3 crore on Sunday, the drop to Rs 50 lakh on Monday indicates that the film is struggling to stay afloat.
Competition and Mixed Reviews Hurt Performance
One of the major factors contributing to Deva's poor performance is stiff competition from other releases. The re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam has surprisingly outperformed expectations, earning more during its rerun than in its original release. Additionally, the Hindi remake of Mumbai Police has received better word of mouth, further pulling audiences away from Deva.
While Shahid Kapoor’s performance and the high-octane action sequences initially drew attention, the film has failed to maintain audience interest in the long run.
An Uncertain Future for Deva
With collections now slipping below Rs 1 crore, the chances of a major resurgence for Deva appear slim. The film’s theatrical run is likely nearing its end unless an unexpected turnaround occurs in the coming days.
What’s Next for Shahid Kapoor?
Shahid Kapoor will soon be seen in an exciting collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. This marks their reunion after delivering critically acclaimed films like Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. The upcoming project will feature an ensemble cast, including Randeep Hooda, Triptii Dimri, and Nana Patekar, raising anticipation among fans.
Stay tuned for updates on Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming projects and the final box office fate of Deva!
